Vitto Cafe and Tea Room

Villa Carlos Paz in Córdoba, Argentina

I recently visited Villa Carlos Paz in Córdoba, Argentina. Wow, this was such a cute town!

If you’re passing through the city in Argentina then you’re in for a treat! Villa Carlos Paz was full of clothing boutiques, coffee and ice cream shops, lively streets, enticing restaurants, and artisanal fairs.

Despite it being a packed trip, I managed to enjoy a chill morning at Vitto. It’s a cute cafe and tearoom centrally located downtown.

The Menu

Vitto’s menu boasts a wide range of breakfasts, meriendas, pastries, sandwiches, salads, and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). With so many options, anyone can find something  they’ll love here!

*Side note: this was the first cafe I visited to list a lactose-intolerant friendly option on their menu. I’ve always had to change parts of my order to avoid stomach aches until Vitto! They also offer a protein-packed breakfast and a gluten-free option as well.

My Order

I was overwhelmed with so many things to choose from. I decided to try their specialty breakfast Serrano el especial de Vitto”.

Throughout my time in Argentina, I’ve found their breakfasts to be much smaller than traditional American meals. Back home, I was used to eating waffles or oatmeal with toast, a hefty piece of fruit, and juice or coffee. Since visiting Argentina, I’ve embraced their smaller breakfasts - usually just a mate or cup of coffee.

I was surprised to see their specialty breakfast resemble what I ate back in the States. One Serrano order included:

  • Cafe con leche

  • Orange juice

  • Toast with butter and jelly

  • 2 medialunas

  • Fruit salad

My boyfriend had ordered the same thing, and when our food came it filled the entire table.

It was a filling breakfast for a great price. Below you’ll find a thorough review and an estimated price after currency conversion.

A Breakdown Review

Coffee

This is what initially drew me into Vitto. I read positive reviews online and decided to try their cafe con leche (in my case with almond milk).

I give it an 8.5/10. It was a basic order but came hot, rich, and a great size for the price (revealed below). I’m still getting used to drinking coffee without any sugary additives and this was one was tasty! I loved the frothy almond milk, and it was the perfect drink to start the day.

Orange Juice

The orange juice was a great refresher after drinking such a rich coffee. It scores a 9/10 because it was freshly squeezed and you could tell it was all-natural, not the fake stuff.

It was pretty hot outside so I’m holding back a point because it was served room-temperature. I was hoping it would be cold to help combat the heat, but oh well.

Toast with Butter and Jelly

I also give this one a 9/10. The bread was average but the jelly was amazing. The majority of our conversation at breakfast consisted of guessing what the delicious flavor was. I seriously regret not asking the waiter myself. My boyfriend and I have narrowed our guesses to fig or apricot. Regardless which it is, it paired well with the rest of our breakfast’s flavors and was the highlight of our meal!

I’m knocking a point off because the toast wasn’t warm and it took forever to work the butter in. The jelly masked the bits of chunky butter that couldn’t melt into the bread.

Medialunas

If you know Argentina then you know they love medialunas. I was happy to see that Vitto included these in the meal.

However, I give these a 7/10. These we’re definitely not my favorite part of the Seranno meal.

Usually there is a choice for dulce or salado (sweet or salty), but this meal didn’t include an option. I’ve got a sugar tooth unlike my boyfriend. Fortunately for him, he liked these medialunes because they were the perfect mix of sweet and salty. They can satisfy either preference well enough since they aren’t super sweet, or super salty.

We both agreed that they were pretty dough-y though. Thankfully we had two drinks to help wash it down.

Fruit Salad

4/10 for the fruit salad. It was really obvious that it came straight from a can off a shelf. Remember the little fruit cups you’d eat in elementary school or daycare?

It wasn’t terrible but wasn’t special. You could make do with swapping it for extra toast or a different side option.

Conclusion

Price: The meal came out to 890 ARS (Argentine pesos) per meal. This was about $3 USD per meal after tip.

Exchange rate: The conversion rate that day was 1 USD = 338.15 ARS (according to Western Union).

Overall, I give the experience an 8.5/10. I think it was a great quantity of food for a small price.

The cafe was a bit cramped, as others have acknowledged this in online reviews, but the cafe had a nice vibe and friendly staff.

Should you find yourself in Villa Carlos Paz, I think this is a good place to stop by and grab a coffee. It’s downtown location will leave you wanting to go out and explore after a refreshing cup!
